Rogue Bishops – Take 2

08 novembre 2013 : Mgr Georges PONTIER, Evêque de Marseille et Pdt de la CEF. Assemblée Plénière de Novembre, Lourdes, France November, 8 th, 2013 : Georges PONTIER, Pdt of CEF and Bishop of Marseille. Plenary november meeting. Lourdes, France  Kardinal_Reinhard_Marx  Markus-Buechel

Fresh on the heels of the German episcopate’s recent decision to jettison the Church’s ecclesiastical law in favor of “human justice” regarding the employment of those living in irregular unions comes word of this leaked meeting – linked here.

This secretive invitation-only meeting in Rome, convened by the increasing infamous Cardinal Reinhard Marx of Germany, included Bishop Markus Büchel and Archbishop Georges Pontier, presidents of the bishops conferences in Switzerland and France, as well as select clergy, theologians and … media.  The topics centered around strategies to liberalize the Church’s stance on marriage, sexuality and so-called same-sex marriage in advance of the fall Synod on the Family.

If one can trust the leaked discussions, there is obvious evidence of an emboldened and defiant attitude against orthodox doctrine from those in attendance.  Until our most recent pontiff, the rot in the Church has stayed mostly out of the limelight but now is moving into the open. Their clever tactic of inviting sympathetic media outlets as allies in propagating errors shows their intent as the Synod nears.  No doubt as fall approaches that there will be an increasing rotation of heart-tugging stories about the normality of all forms of “family” and how out of touch the Church is with today’s inclusiveness.

St. Athanasius, pray for us! Pray for orthodox Bishops to stand strong in the true Faith!

I find myself hoping against all hope that this is some sort of papal strategy to get them all to expose themselves before they are swept away. But in the meantime it is sowing confusion, and to what end? The only thing I can come up with is so Pope Francis could say, “I gave you every opportunity to be heard on these issues–you have been weighed, measured, and found wanting.” That seems like a long shot…

Here’s a response (and history lesson) worth reading: http://www.catholicworldreport.com/Blog/3905/synod_journal_the_return_of_tired_catholic_lite_euphemisms.aspx. The petultimate paragraph sums things up nicely.

I was reflecting on this grave issue before Mass a couple of days ago. While looking at the crucifix, it struck me that these bishops are tearing great wounds in the body of Christ today, another verberatio, and thus are playing the role of the Roman scourgers. They have already declared that they will follow their own path regardless of the outcome of the synod. They are thus in open schism, while the Holy Father remains silent.
